Department of Human Sciences

The Department of Human Sciences offers one degree, B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences, with three concentrations - Fashion Merchandising and Design, Child and Family Studies Programs, and Human Nutrition and Food. There is also a post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship offered in the Department. The Department is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Apparel Merchandising and Textiles

The Apparel Merchandising and Textiles program provides a basic foundation for entry-level positions in manufacturing, retailing, and related industries, both domestically and globally. The program prepares students for challenging and promising careers as store managers, designers, buyers, product developers, textile scientists, fashion stylists, visual merchandisers, fashion coordinators, merchandise managers and entrepreneurs, among numerous others. The curriculum also prepares students for graduate study in a merchandising and textiles program.

Child Development

The Child Development program leads to multidisciplinary career opportunities related to human development, education and well-being of children and families. Participants of the program will select from a wide range of courses, including-but not limited to-social work, business, government and education.

Human Nutrition and Food

Human Nutrition and Food is the 1) systematic study of the nutritional needs of individuals in both health and disease; 2) the provision of nutritious food to individuals or groups in order to promote or maintain health and prevent or treat illness; 3) the provision of nutritional care to individuals of groups through nutrition education, and distribution of food; and 4) the provision of food to groups through the management of food service systems. The Human Nutrition and Food emphasis in Family and Consumer Sciences translates the science of food and its relation to good health into exciting careers.
